Brittana fans have been waiting for a serious kiss… and it was worth the wait! The Valentine’s episode gave us terrific Brittany/Santana airtime in which the two were possibly facing some discrimination as a lesbian couple. “Lesbian teens!” cried Principal Figgins. But in the end, even the new holy roller character was supportive of Brittana getting equal treatment.
Katherine Brooks, the director and writer of one of our favorite movies, LOVING ANNABELLE, is nominated for two “Shorty” Awards.
The Shorty Awards honor the best of social media, recognizing the people and organizations producing real-time short form content on across Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Foursquare, and the rest of the social Web.
Every year, millions of people visit the Shorty Awards site to tweet nominations for their favorite social media content creators. All those tweets culminate in a highly anticipated awards ceremony that celebrates the winners in dozens of featured categories.
Brooks is being very creative in campaigning for votes. She posted to Facebook:

This event is a collaborative effort of fans based in the UK and the USA. It’s a not-for-profit event and tickets go on sale in early 2012. HBO is still developing a series based on Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right, in which ”the five characters return, and it doesn’t just pick up where the film left off, it shows their lives before and after. Right now, we’re figuring out if we show what happens with the meeting in the movie. We don’t quite know yet.” That’s according to producer Celine Rattray.
When HBO announced that it was developing Lisa Cholodenko’s Best Picture nominee The Kids Are All Right as a potential new series, reports also indicated that it would essentially be a continuation of the movie’s plot. That’s not quite accurate, according to producer Celine Rattray.
“The five characters return, and it doesn’t just pick up where the film left off, it shows their lives before and after. Right now, we’re figuring out if we show what happens with the meeting in the movie. We don’t quite know yet.”
Rattray cautioned that they’re still fairly early in the scripting, but said, “We would be lucky if any of the actors return for this.” And though Ryan Murphy and Sean Hayes are both developing network sitcoms about gay parents, Rattray isn’t worried: “Ours is HBO, so it will be more risqué. It’ll be fun.”
Be still my beating heart! I’ve been watching Terra Nova and mostly enjoying it. The graphics are a bit cartoonish at times, and the drama is often sappy (big breakthrough when a little girl who hasn’t seen her father in several years calls him “Daddy”…sheesh).
However, something interesting is brewing with two characters – Mira and Washington, and it really got my femslash radar pinging like a pinball machine in this week’s episode, Runaway.
First, have a look at the two characters in question
LT. ALICIA (“Wash”) WASHINGTON
Washington is played by Simone Kessell, an Australian actress.
Ooooh, who doesn’t love a woman in uniform? With power (she’s 2nd in command)? With guns? (Hmmm)… Who looks like JENNIFER BEALS?!
So the scoop on Washington is that she’s part of the “establishment”. The official colony of settlers who have managed to go back in time to a clean earth. However, earth is 85 million years older, so they have to start “settling” it from scratch. There are dinosaurs.
There is also a renegade bunch known as “Sixers” (they were the 6th group to time shift back to early earth). The head of the Sixers is a hottie named MIRA. Mira is played by Christine Adams. Doctor Who, Stargate SG-1, Bryan Fuller’s Pushing Daisies, Murder in Mind, and NY-LON. Her film career includes roles in Batman Begins and Submerged.
Mira has a daughter who is still stuck in “present” earth – the year 2149. She wants to see her. Again, Mira used to be part of the established colony, but there’s some badness going on between her and the leader of the colony, Washington’s boss. The question is… is he the good guy he’s portrayed to be? Is she an outcast? Or is it all going to get flipped if things aren’t as simple as they appear to be.
In the meantime, we had an amazing combat scene between Washington and Mira that had us yelling FEMSLASH! at the television. We’re looking for screen caps or video to update this article to share this Xena-like scene.
Given the tepid reviews and ratings, TERRA NOVA could use the boost a series femslash pairing could bring to the show.
So… heads up. You heard it hear first:

Heads up! It’s the start of the Fall 2011 TV season, and we will be on the look out for fabulous lesbian pairings (or hopeful pairings) for some great femslash fanfiction!
Three big contenders for lesbian fanfiction:
– PRIME SUSPECT starring Maria Bello. Seriously, we could just end the sentence right there. Do we need to say more? Well, for those who don’t know, Prime Suspect aired in the UK starring Helen Mirren in the lead role. But be still our beating femslash hearts, we’re getting Maria Bello in the she-should-really-be-a-lesbian lead role of Jane Timoney. Premieres September 22 on NBC at 10 pm.
– THE GOOD WIFE. Ah, Kalinda. Our hearts raced, our hearts sank, our hearts were put through a ringer in Season 2 of The Good Wife. We got lots of Kalinda – and what Kalinda is best at – intrigue. She kissed a woman, flirted heavily with two men, had a female ex show up, got outed as having had an affair with Alicia’s dirtbag ex husband… wow, take a breath! Probably the most gut wrenching moment in Season 2 was when hard-as-nails Kalinda broke down in the elevator after Alicia told her she knew about Kalinda and Peter’s affair. Kalinda even referred to Alicia as her “best friend.” There’s major, major sapphic chemistry between Archie Punjabi’s Kalinda and Julianna Margulies’ Alicia. Hottest scene of the season: the two of them sitting on a bed, drinking beer, and reviewing case notes. Bring on some lesbian fanfic! Season 2 ended with them at odds but working together. Looking forward to a make up scene in Season 3! THE GOOD WIFE has moved to Sundays, premiering on September 25 on CBS at 9 pm.
GLEE – Brittana! Ah, while many fans felt let down by Season 2 of Glee, lesbian fans rejoiced! Sure, there was the wonderful Curt and Blaine storyline, but out of the rainbow shot a lesbian storyline, as well. Acid-tongued Santana came out to airhead Brittany. It turns out that Santana has realized she’s angry and hate filled because she’s in love with Brittany and has been repressing it. Suddenly, two also-ran characters raced to the head of the lesbian class. Season 3 is supposed to develop the story further. Bring on Brittana! Bring on Brittan fics! Glee returns Tuesday, September 20 at 8 pm on FOX.
GREY’S ANATOMY – Season 7 was high drama ending with incredible happiness for Callie and Arizona. Arizona accepted a grant that separated them for a while after a fight, but she cut the Africa grant short only to return to find Callie pregnant with Marks’ baby. Lots of anguish followed, culminating in Arizona accepting the baby and proposing to Callie. A car accident nearly killed both Callie and the baby, but both survived. They married and are all happy and healthy. How long can it last? Grey’s Anatomy begins Season 8 on Thursday, September 22 at 9 pm with a 2 hour premiere on ABC.
